Messi show he’s Liga apart as he sets new record

Lionel Messi kept up his demolition of domestic records to become the alltime top-scorer in La Liga history for goals at home.

The Barcelona talisman overtook Athletic Bilbao legend Telmo Zarra’s tally of 179 with a strike against Deportivo as Barcelona ran out 4- 0 winners.

Barca killed the game off before half- time with a double from Rafinha and a strike from Luis Suarez.

But the match was all about the return of hero Messi, who found the net soon after coming on as a second-half sub.

Running onto Neymar’s clever pass into the box, the Argentine drove the ball beyond keeper German Lux to make history.

Elsewhere in Spain, a Yannick Carrasco hat-trick inspired Atletico Madrid to come from behind and thrash Granada 7-1 to reclaim top spot.

Sevilla had replaced Atletico at the top with a 3-2 win at Leganes earlier and Granada threatened an upset thanks to Isaac Cuenca’s early strike.

But Atletico responded superbly with Carrasco making it 3-1 after an hour.

Sub Nico Gaitan netted a double to take it to 5-1 before late goals from Angel Correa and Tiago completed the blitz.

On-loan Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri scored his second goal in four games as Sevilla won at Leganes.

Nasri struck just after the break to double his side’s lead after Franco Vazquez had netted first.

But two goals in three minutes from David Timor and Alex Szymanowsk­i brought the Leganes level.

However, Pablo Sarabia curled in a stunning late winner for Sevilla.
