Noise level at Hoops is supersonic

- Scott McDermott

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that even Oasis star and Manchester City diehard Noel Gallagher was blown away by the atmosphere at Celtic Park.

The Hoops boss spoke with the rock star after his side’s 3-3 draw against the Blues in the Champions League.

The Hoops boss, nicknamed ‘ The Brodge’ by the musician, says Gallagher was overawed by the noise at Parkhead and Rodgers admits even his own staff didn’t expect nights like that when they arrived in Glasgow.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s Group C clash with Germans Borussia Monchengladbach, Rodgers said: “The players must give the fans something to sing and cheer about it.

“The unique thing about Celtic Park is that it’s the whole stadium who lift the team.

“The people I spoke to after the Manchester City game – celebrities – said they’d heard nothing like it before.

“I spoke to Noel. The last game he was at was our 6-2 victory over Rangers under Martin O’Neill.

“But he said the City game was another level of noise.

“It was remarkable.

“Obviously we had the Old Firm game and that was a big atmosphere. It was the same against City.

“Most people in England expected me to stay in the Premier League. But the ones I’ve spoken to can see why I came to Celtic.

“My English staff have never heard anything like that night and they’re loving it. They love being here at this club.

“They know the size of it now. They came up here with no idea of what it was or what it was like to be at a club like Celtic. But they know now.”
