Cove edge closer to first place

Cove Rangers moved to within three points of league leaders Buckie Thistle with a resounding 6- 0 victory over Wick Academy.

The defending champions trimmed two points off the Jags’ Highland League lead thanks to goals from Blair Yule, Scott Walker, Mitch Megginson and a Harry Milne double before a David Mackay own goal wrapped up the game.

Cove boss John Sheran said: “We got the goals at the right times to kill Wick off.

“Everyone is pushing hard and they were all good for the 90 minutes.”

Buckie remain unbeaten however they dropped points with a 1-1 draw at home to Fraserburg­h.

Paul Campbell gave the Broch the lead but Hamish Munro salvaged a point for Buckie with three minutes remaining.

Brora Rangers earned a huge three points in a 4-1 victory at title challenger­s Formartine United. Paul Brindle, Scott Lyle, Andrew Greig and Steven Ross did the damage whi le Paul Lawson scored for United.

Clach sprang a surprise on Inverurie Locos with 2- 0 win and Turriff United beat Nairn County by the same scoreline.

Forres Mechanics swept aside Rothes 5- 0 with goals from Martin Groat, Lee Baxter, Graeme Grant, Lee Fraser and Stuart Soane.

Craig Cormack grasped a double as Keith thrashed Deveronval­e 4- 0.

Dennis Wyness rolled back the years with a double for Huntly who drew 2-2 with Strathspey Thistle.
