Hunger in the Bele for Celts boss

-

2-0 win over Motherwell yesterday ahead of the Champions League clash.

Dembele won then converted a late penalty to secure the victory and Rodgers insisted it summed up his side having the guts to go for glory.

He said: “I said to the players for us to succeed it’s not just about being hungry for success – it’s about being starving.

“The penalty was a perfect example of the spirit. They will chase everything.

“It looked like it was dead and going to go through to the keeper but Moussa made it something. The best strikers do that and create something out of nothing or make something.

“Forget about his quality that’s about a mindset to get there.”

Rodgers rested Tom Rogic yesterday, along with injured Mikael Lustig and Nir Bitton. But he expects all three to be ready for the crucial Borussia clash.

The Hoops gaffer said: “I had to leave Tom out totally. The guy has been to Saudi Arabia and then Melbourne. He only came back on Thursday morning.

“I’ve been wanting to see young Liam Henderson because he’s a talent but it has been hard to get him in.

“Stuart Armstrong came in and did very well and young Cristian Gamboa hasn’t had a lot of opportunities.

“But he has proven in training now that he’s up to speed and he’s understanding how we’re playing.”

Celts drew 3-3 with Manchester City in their last Euro clash and Rodgers is now seeking the win he believes could secure Europa League football at least in the new year.

He said: “Our objective is to be back in Europe after Christmas. That would be great in such a strong group.

“You look to win your home game then get something away. It’s not a disaster if we don’t – as long as we win one.”

Rodgers also revealed he will kickstart the search for a new super scout following John Park’s departure.

The Hoops boss said: “I put on record my thanks to John. We will now look to put someone in place that can hopefully take the next steps forward.”
