-

because I’m 59, I’m alright, I’ve got loads to do in my life.

“Do I fear not working with these players? Yes. Do I fear not working with the staff? Yes.

“I’ve been so lucky in football to get to places people only dream of.

“When I got this job my thought was how do we get these players, this staff, these fans, everybody to a tournament that I know would be fantastic once you get there it.

“That would be the real ly disappointing thing as my only fear is not being able to achieve that and help people get to places I know are a fantastic place to be.

“I love this job. I love working with the people, I love bumping into the supporters and I get a great response from them.”

Strachan is convinced he is the best man to take Scotland to Wembley on November 11 and secure a result against the Auld Enemy that would put the Group F campaign back on track.

He has the full backing of the SFA and any decision that would see him depart in the short term would have to come from Strachan himself .

However, he refuses to accept he is bombproof at Hampden.

He said: “I don’t understand that one. I think people will make decisions later on.

“I just think I am the best man to go down there and get a result. The only thing I want to do is make people happy.”

Scotland fans roundly booed Strachan after the 3- 0 loss in Slovakia but he insists he’s not immune to the hurt of failure.

He said: “It’s not a great feeling. People get disappointed and nervous and get down. We’re all the same. That’s the nature of the game.”
