He had signed up to retrain as a gas fitter as he wanted to invest in his family’s future.

But he called me in as he was unhappy with the training materials from Trades Gateway, based in Harpenden, Herts.

The firm’s accounts are also now listed as overdue at Companies House.

David, 33, of Cambuslang, near Glasgow, said: “This was supposed to be an exciting opportunity as I have a young family and wanted to build a future for us all. That’s the last thing it has been.”

David, a dad to Charlie, five, financed the training with a £7145 loan from Carnegie Consumer Finance in October 2015. The repayments were £165 a month for three-and-a-half years.

But Trades Gateway, a trading name of Marlborough Information Services, said they were sorry David was dissatisfied and agreed to write off the loan.

They said: “In an effort to resolve the matter, we will offer to cancel his course, even though this is now outside of the normal expiration date.

“We would pay the balance of the monies outstanding to the finance company, who would take no further action regarding the outstanding agreement. No further payments would be required.”
