McCoist back on job hunt

- Scott McDermott

Ally McCoist has revealed he lost out on the vacant QPR job to Ian Holloway.

And the former Rangers boss is keen to get back into management.

McCoist hasn’t worked since leaving his role as Ibrox gaffer in 2014.

Despite being at the helm at Ibrox during the most turbulent years in the club’s history, the 54-yearold hasn’t been put off.

He said: “I threw my name in for the QPR job.

“I’ve been for a few other interviews, a couple in the Championship.

“A few other jobs have come up but people told me not to go near them with a barge pole.

“I won’t take something for the sake of it. There’s no point moving my family down the road to be back up in three months.

“I’m in a fortunate position as I can do some punditry and I have other business interests that I’m working on.

“But I’m looking at England and there are a things in America that I’d seriously consider as well.

“Why is it worth the hassle? It’s just a love for the game.

“There’s no other reason. It’s madness but unless you’re involved in it, you don’t really get it.”

McCoist came in for flak for results as Gers boss but he held the club together at a difficult time.

He said: “At Rangers, there wasn’t a scenario I didn’t have to deal with.

“It was a bizarre time with some of the goings on. It was incredible.

“I don’t regret it. I’m happy that I took it.

“I’m not sure what would have happened if someone else had taken the job.

“I don’t know if someone else could have done the same job. But I wouldn’t have liked to take that chance and find out.”
