Keeper heroics shut out Utd

- Morton...............................0 Dundee United .................0

Derek Gaston was Morton hero with a series of stunning saves that denied Dundee United and left Ray McKinnon groaning in frustration.

The Cappielow shotstopper kept out Scott Fraser, Tony Andreu and Jamie Robson’s efforts as he earned a well deserved clean sheet.

Tangerines boss McKinnon admitted there was little more his side could do to break the deadlock as they made it 10 straight games without defeat.

He said: “What about these saves their keeper made? He was incredible!

“The pleasing thing for me was the desire that the boys showed to win the game in the last 30 minutes. We kept on going but unfortunately didn’t get what we deserved.

“We just have to take it on the chin and move on. Morton are on a good run too and this is always a tough place to come.

“We made two, or three, really good chances which just came and went but I have to be pleased with our desire to try and win.”

United’s Charlie Telfer lit the touch paper with a swirling effort from the edge of the box after only 56 seconds. He pounced to whip a shot over keeper Gaston and narrowly over the bar.

Arabs continued to dominate the opening sparring but it was Ton who threatened after soaking up the pressure.

Front man Jai Quitongo outmuscled William Edjenguele on the right then fed the ball to Ross Forbes who eventually saw his near-post drive deflected for a corner in 17 minutes.

Then minutes later United keeper Cammy Bell pulled off a smart save from Forbes’ fizzing low drive.
