Frizz not fazed by Broony

-

Teenager Adam Frizzell went toe-to-toe with Celtic skipper Scott Brown on Friday night and never gave an inch.

But the Killie playmaker still reckons he has a mile to go before he’s the finished article.

Rugby Park boss Lee Clark showed massive faith in the 18-year- old by having him go man-for-man with the revitalised Scotland star, who had his least influential game of the season.

And Frizzell, making just his fourth start of the campaign, said: “That was exactly the type of challenge I was looking for.

“You want to test yourself against the best and you’re not going to get much higher than that in Scotland.

“We tried to go toe-to-toe with them in midfield and I thought we matched them.

“I f me a nd Ror y McKenzie sat off Brown and Stuart Armstrong they would have been able to run the game.

“But it was a great battle. With Brown he is always right in about you. I was just told I had to make sure he wasn’t spreading the play.

“I sensed him getting frustrated. I had to match him and I felt I did.”

Clark was full of praise for Frizzell and fellow teen Greg Taylor for taking the game to the champions in the second half.

But the academy graduate was still frustrated at the outcome. Adam said: “The manager said I played well but I know I need to add goals to my game as I haven’t scored yet for Killie.

“The coaches have been great as they stay behind after training and help me work on my finishing and decision-making.

“In the end though, it was a wee bit disheartening, not taking something from the game.

“It was a similar story against Rangers here earlier in the season. We played really well then and only came away with a point.

“Having said that, we restricted Celtic to only a couple of chances.

“And we were on the front foot as well for spells so there are a lot of positives to take.”
