- Mickey McMonagle

Amy Macdonald and KT Tunstall stole the show at the SSE Scottish Music Awards last night.

They were among the winners at Scotland’s music Oscars at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow which also saw acts such as Biffy Clyro, Fatboy Slim and rising star Be Charlotte honoured.

Amy, KT, The Bluebells, Red, Travis, Twin Atlantic and Middle of the Road performed at the event, which raised money for the Nordoff Robbins Scotland music charity.

Amy, who won the Hard Rock Cafe Heals Award, said: “I feel privileged to be seen as an ambassador for Scotland and the music we produce.

“It’s an honour to feel part of the community of musicians and bands that have come from Scotland over the years.”

KT was thrilled with her King Tut’s Award for Songwriting, saying: “What a lovely award to win. Huge thanks to the Scottish Music Awards and the brilliant Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity.

“Songwriting will always be the heart of music for me. Telling a story, baring your soul, digging deep for meaning.

“This award means a lot to me and I’m very proud to continue to be part of a long legacy of impactful music coming out of Scotland.”

The event saw DF Concerts’ Dave McGeachan, who battled serious illness last year, collect the Sunday Mail Music Business Award.

Dave works with us on our 7Nights Sessions charity shows at King Tut’s, which will relaunch next year, with all profits going to Nordoff Robbins.

Donald MacLeod, chairman of Nordoff Robbins Scotland, said: “It was the perfect celebration of 20 years of Nordoff Robbins Scotland and we’re incredibly grateful.”
