Crisis? We’re having a ball
ScotRail held a celebration ball following a week from hell for commuters.
The black tie event, hosted by radio presenter Gina McKie, took place at one of Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel last Saturday.
It came 48 hours after the company announced their latest performance figures had slipped close to the level which could see operators Abellio stripped of the contract.
The day before that, the network had gone into meltdown after a train broke down outside Edinburgh Waverley station.
Managing director Phil Verster was among top brass at the event.
An insider said: “It was a nice night but you could sense some felt it maybe wasn’t the best timing.
“It was the Your Recognition ball to reward employees who have done commendable things.
“The operations director and HR director were there.
“Phil Verster wasn’t saying too much and people noticed there was a marked absence of reports on social media afterwards.
“Passengers who are at the sharp end of the service might not appreciate it.”
A source said: “Winners have all done something worthy of recognition, for example action that prevented a suicide on the railway or raising thousands for charity.”
A Scotrail Alliance spokeswoman said, “We are proud to recognise frontline staff who make such a difference for our customers, charities and communities across Scotland.”
