We’ve no defence for sitting back
Adam Barton insists Partick Thistle blew a point against Rangers because they didn’t go for three.
The centre-half was distraught as Joe Dodoo’s late come-from-behind double to cancel out Kris Doolan’s opener deprived the Jags of a result and left them anchored in a relegation dogfight.
A slip from Abdul Osman helped Gers steal the victory in stoppage time but Barton confessed: “We would have been disappointed with even a point.
“We put into practice everything we’d been doing all week but the captain slips and they score with the last kick.
“We need to overcome this mentality of when we concede a goal to drop off and think: ‘They’re going to attack now.’
“We thought we had shaken it a couple of weeks ago when we got two wins and the draws before that but it just seems to be the mentality in the camp to defend when we concede.
“We shouldn’t be doing that, we should be going for it and getting another goal.”
Boss Alan Archibald shared his stopper’s pain and added: “I’m bitterly disappointed.
“I’m proud of the lads, proud of the reaction we got after last week’s terrible performance, but it was just disappointing to lose a goal that essentially came down to a slip.
“We were the better team in the first half, we got at Rangers and created some good opportunities. And we were trying to win the game.
“The goal didn’t come from being too cavalier. I t came from a slip by Abdul in the middle of the park.”
