PLATE UP GORDON

£1k fine on the menu for star Ramsay

- Toby McDonald

Gordon Ramsay has been warned he is routinely breaking the law in his new £1.63million supercar.

The chef took to the roads last week in the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta.

Just 150 of the convertibles are being built and all were sold in advance before the model was officially confirmed.

But the star’s white 950hp speedster appears to have hit a legal problem. It was displaying just one number plate – with a personalised registration using the TV chef ’s initials – at the rear while he was showing off in London.

The petrolhead, 49, who already owns nine Ferraris, got his first as a present after achieving three Michelin stars.

Vehicle licence registration requirements insist that cars must display two – or the owner faces a fine of up to £1000. After seeing a video of the car in action, the AA’s Jack Cousens said: “The legislation is clear that cars should display a number plate at the front and rear.

“The main purpose of having two number plates is to make vehicles readily identifiable for the purposes of law enforcement, road safety and the collection of vehicle excise duty.

“Members of the public who report incidents to the police are often aided by both the front and rear number plates.

“By failing to display a front number plate, Mr Ramsay runs the risk of receiving a fine of up to £1000.”

The Aperta is powered by a 6.3-litre V12 motor, assisted by a hybrid system similar to the kinetic energy recovery system used in Ferrari’s F1 car.

The car will go from 0 to 60mph in under three seconds and on to a top speed of around 217mph.

Ramsay’s supercar carries the licence plate F150 GR – a combination of the code name Ferrari used to refer to the LaFerrari during its development and his initials.

Recently, the dad of four said his collection of Ferraris was his “most treasured possession”. Yesterday, a spokesman for Ramsay declined to comment.

The DVLA said: “Cars are required to display a front and rear number plate and failure to do so could result in the vehicle keeperp beingg fined upp to £1000.”
