Rio replay too sore for Miley

Hannah Miley admits she still hasn’t watched a replay of her Olympic heartache in Rio.

The distance between her fingertips and bronze was just 15 hundredths of a second.

So the prospect of watching the footage was simply too painful. Too deflating.

A goal she had always wanted was swept away over the closing few strokes and the wounds have still to heal.

Miley said: “It is hard to watch but if I saw it now I’d have a much different perspective than after the race when it was all very raw.

“It hurt, seeing those last three metres. I’ve always been happy with my height but I’ve never wanted more to be an inch taller.

“I can honestly say there’s nothing more I could have done. I gave it everything. I can look at it positively and say I know what needs to change and get better.

“Coming fourth, as hard as it was, has reinvigorated me and given me motivation. And it’s all part of my story and journey.”

Turning 27 two days after the f inal – ancient in swimming terms – many expected the pride of Inverurie to hang up her cap and head for dry land.

Not a bit of it. Instead she jetted to Canada yesterday for the world short course championships, ready to make a splash all over again and dream of glory at the 2020 Olympics.
