Warbs trusts in Waghorn to get back among goals
Mark Warburton insists off-form striker Martyn Waghorn will still be a key man for Rangers.
The 26-year-old hitman was a revelation for the Ibrox side in the Championship last season with 20 goals to show for the league campaign.
But he has struggled to make an impact in the Premiership this term – largely due to injury – and hasn’t netted since the opening day against Hamilton.
It has been reported Warburton will look to shift the player either in January or in the summer after Waghorn rejected a new contract at Ibrox.
But the Rangers gaffer believes the frontman is ready to shine again in a light blue shirt. Warburton said: “Waggy has been out for a while but he’s desperate to play now. I have no worries about playing him up top. Waggy is a very good player who scored a lot of goals for us last season.
“He knows what I think of him, the trust I have in him and how much I like him as a player and a person.
“If anyone has a problem they can knock on my door any time.
“I supposedly had a row with Waggy. He asked if we had and I told him, ‘Not as far as I’m aware.’ “We had a laugh about it. “I’m frustrated we haven’t got as many goals from all over the park this season, from midfield and our full-backs.
“Last year they were free-flowing but this season they’ve been harder to come by.”
