Death or glory for Dougie

-

Dougie Imrie reckons the neck- and-neck seven-team war between heaven and hell will be fought to the death this season.

Hami lton’s defeat to Rangers on Friday night saw their run without a win stretch to eight games.

There are only five points separating the top six AND bottom place.

And the Accies playmaker, who grabbed his side’s consolation in their 2- 1 home defeat to Gers, reckons all the teams will be cutting each other’s throats all the way to the split and beyond.

He said: “Outwith Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts everyone is capable of beating everyone.

“That ’ s why the table is so close.

“You’re only a win or two away from the top six and a defeat from bottom place.

“And it’ll be that way right until the end of the season unless two or three teams go on a run of four or five wins and push on.

“But I don’t see that happening because we can all stop each other doing that. I actually think you could still see six or seven teams in the thick of it come the split.

“To be fair to St Johnstone, they’re normally up there, they’re an experienced side who know how to win games.

“But for everyone else it’s still there to try to finish in the top six.”

Despite finding stability in a run of five straight draws, Accies are still searching for an elusive win.

But back-to- back defeats from Celtic and Rangers and a difficult run of fixtures over the festive period has them looking over their shoulders.

Imrie said: “We’ve had 10 draws in total this season.

“If we could have turned two or three of them into wins we’d be looking a bit prettier in the table.

“Now we’ve got Celtic at home, Aberdeen away and then a derby with Motherwell so that’s three tough games.

“Playing both sides of the Old Firm in three days is hard but it’s not an excuse.”
