Dons told to rugger off over Saints feud

-

before slagging off others. Dons have won just once in five and they have slipped 18 points behind Celtic.

The bad blood between the sides goes back to September when Saints accused Aberdeen of over-celebrating after a 1-0 League Cup victory. Dons defender Anthony O’Connor stirred up the feud again yesterday, saying the Perth men were long-ball merchants.

And MacLean said: “It’s getting old news, saying that St Johnstone are hard to play against. Jesus, man. They need to get something new, don’t they? They have even started calling us rugby players on the park.

“I don’t know where it is coming from.

“If we are rugby players and physical on the pitch then why have they only beaten us once out of eight in the league?

“I think they need to do something else.

“Maybe they need to keep their own house in order instead of talking about someone else’s house.

“You pick up newspapers and read articles where their players are coming out saying ‘St Johnstone are this and that’.

“If we are this and that, you can’t beat us. Get your own house in order.

“I think we beat them 5-1 and 3-0 last season. They beat us 4-3. I think they are just playing for 0- 0 draws against us now.

“During the game at Pittodrie, they were calling us rugby players.

“We were just laughing at them.

“It shows how good they are that they can’t beat rugby players.”
