Richie rues Caley confidence crisis

-

Richie Foran reckons low confidence cost Inverness at crucial moments in their Highland derby defeat.

And the Irishman admits he and his team must up their game after a dismal end to 2016.

Foran said: “It was down to fine margins.

“We looked the better footballing team and they looked real ly dangerous on the counter-attack.

“We created chances and put lots of crosses in the box. There’s a bit of a confidence problem running through the team at the moment.

“There was nervousness there which I saw from the start. The goals gave us a lift but when you’re low on confidence, you’re low on energy.

“We talk about belief and believing we can score. They say they have it but I don’t think we believe we can hit the back of the net with these chances. The second goal killed us. We let him inside and it is schoolboy stuf f. But we’re six points off the top six and just two wins from where we want to be.

“2016 has been a poor performance from me and the players.

“I’m the head of it so it’s been a poor start to management for me. 2017 will be better from me and my team.

“The players need the break now. They need to go away, get their minds refreshed and come back stronger individuals and find that bit of quality while they’re away and bring it back with them.”

There was further frustration for Foran as the third County goal came while defender Josh Meekings was receiving treatment.

But he added: “There’s no issue with the medical team. You can never blame them – they’re wonderful and it’s their job to look after players. That’s what they’ve done.”
