You can Bank on having a great time at seaside pub with stunning views
It’s the Fife coastal town famous for its award-winning chippie – but a stop for lunch at The Bank in Anstruther certainly paid a dividend.
This stylishly decorated pub is a popular haunt of locals and visitors to the beautiful fishing port.
Old bank notes and bankers’ drafts that have been framed on the walls give a nostalgic nod to the building’s former life.
A pool table and two giant TV screens in the bar help accrue the interest of sports’ fans.
And even animal lovers are quids-in at this dog-friendly pub.
But the most valuable asset is the stunning sea view from the recently added dining room. Stroll through from the bar, ppast the snug lounge a rea with its smar t leather armchairs, to get to the light, bright restaurant area that not only looks out over the Dreel Burn but on to the Firth of Forth.
Not surprisingly, the menus offered at both lunch and in the evening include a large seafood selection.
We enjoyed watching the waves crash towards the harbour while tucking into a hearty plate of East Neuk fish and chips, featuring locally caught haddock.
But there is a wide selection of non- f ish dishes too – from traditional bangers and mash to the chef ’s own recipe for battered chicken breast burger. The Bank boasts a large selection of real ales, as well as a strong wine list, although the friendly staff admitted they had recently done away with their cocktail menu due to lack of demand.
A great pub, well worth a visit.
