Doyle waltzes clear in Vienna

Eilidh Doyle powered to the top of the European rankings last night thanks to a stunning start to her indoor season in Vienna.

The 29- year- old Scot finished almost a second clear of British prospect Laviai Nielsen with a time of 51.86secs in the 400metres.

Guy Learmonth moved up to second in the world rankings with an indoor personal best of 1:47.20 over 800m in Austria.

Meanwhile, Alisha Rees says she’s ready to mix it with the best after breaking a record that stood since 1982 at the Scottish Indoor Championsh­ips in Glasgow.

The 17-year- old, who set a Scottish Under-20 best of 24.18secs in the 200m, said: “It’s definitely in my mind to qual if y for the Commonweal­th Games.” Richie Ramsay will tee up in today’s final round at the Qatar Masters trailing leader Jeunghun Wang of South Korea by 10 shots.

The leading Scot in Doha carded a three-under 69 to sit on five under with David Drysdale a shot further back after a two-under 70. Wang has a three-shot lead after a bogey-free round of 65. Sterling Davis admits defeat to London Lions tonight could spell the end of Glasgow Rocks’ British Basketball League title bid.

The Rocks have only won two of their last seven and coach Davis said: “It could be a decider in terms of the title race for both of us.

“We have to be prepared and correct some things we failed to achieve last week.” Inverleith beat rivals Grange 7- 4 to set up a Division One Final with Grove Menzieshil­l, who beat Bromac Kelburne 7- 5, in men’s indoor hockey league.
