Warbs demands revenge over Jambos for fans

- Gordon Waddell

Mark Warburton refuses to offer excuses for one of the worst Rangers performances in his 18-month tenure.

But the boss insists the Light Blues support deserve better than they got the last time they went to Tynecastle.

The Ibrox side return to Gorgie in midweek, nine weeks on from the 2-0 doing they took in Robbie Neilson’s last game in charge of the Jambos. And Warbs insisted: “We just didn’t turn up that night.

“However, it might’ve been a turning point in that after it we went on a good run of results and performances, including tough games against Aberdeen and Hearts.

“People said we were bullied but we weren’t. We didn’t pull out of tackles.

“We just didn’t play well — and it happens. We play teams here and we batter them. Then I hear their manager say they didn’t play well. It just seems to be a different perspective with Rangers.

“There were no excuses from us. The press conference was short and sweet. Not through anger, it was just through an admission we simply weren’t good enough.

“It wasn’t about the pitch, it wasn’t about the referee. It’s much better being that way.

“If you’ve been given two penalties against you, and there’s been some shocking decisions, then you come out and say so.

“But the fact is the fans went there in good voice but we weren’t good enough for them.”

Warburton is relishing a return though and insists any player worth his salt should feel the same way.

He said: “It’s a great ground. I love the atmosphere, I love the fact the fans are on top of you. They should enjoy that intimidating atmosphere, they should thrive on it.”
