Canning pop at goal ace

-

Martin Canning has ordered Ali Crawford to f ind his shooting boots after the playmaker passed up a golden chance to sink St Johnstone.

The midfielder missed a sitter and Accies paid the pr ice wit h t he bos s admitting his men need to start hitting the net or they’ll be facing the drop.

Hamilton’s horror run has reached 12 games without a win and only goa l difference keeps them above bottom club Inverness.

Canning said: “It’s key moments in games that are costing us. We can’t keep sitting here saying we are not taking opportunities.

“If you can’t score and keep conceding then you are on a hiding to nothing.

“If we think we’re good enough defensively to pass up six or seven chances, then we’re going to have an issue.

“The way we’re set up is the right way to do it, we were the better team for 50 minutes. I don’t know what it is. We score plenty in training so I don’t know why we are not putting it in the net on match day.

“Ali has scored a few but he’s also missed a few. He gets into great areas and if he could tighten that up he could easily be five or six goals better off than he is.

“He missed a crucial one at 1-1 with Aberdeen and there was another one off the line against Motherwell.

“It’s big moments in games. It’s credit to him he’s getting into these positions but he needs to put them away more regularly. We need to put games to bed.” Canning admitted his side were struggling with Massimo Donati, Mickey Devlin and Georgios Sarris out. He said: “It’s frustrating.

“I thought we did enough at times but need to make sure we bounce back against Inverness on Tuesday.”
