We did not pile on pain

- Gordon Waddell

Stevie Hammell admitted Motherwell blew their chances to hurt Rangers when they were down.

The Fir Park side were on top against Rangers’ 11 and then 10, until the playing g field was levelled by Scott t McDonald’s 26th-minute red card.

And full back Hammell sighed: “It hurts. We’re f inding a way to lose games just now and we e need to get rid of that.

“When we’re on top andd creating chances we need d to make sure we take them. m.

“I’ve not seen the goalss back but they were quite e cheap. It’s a bad balancee for us so we need to workk hard to rectify that.

“When it was 11 v 11 wee started the game well. Bututt our red card kills it for us,s , albeit it’s still 10 v 10.”

Hammell revealed refef f Willie Collum had no o qualms about the red on n McDonald – but refused too be drawn on whether r Rangers’ Rob Kiernan n should have gone for a similar challenge on him.m.

He said: ” I’ve not seenn Scott’s one back but I spoke e to Willie at half-time and d he said it was an easyy decision for him.

“I’l l need to takee another look at it but for me it looked a bit harsh.

“The tackle on me, I’m not sure, I don’t like to see players sent off for one-off tackles. He was s high and I knew he was coming in at pace so I protected myself.

“But he didn’t hurt me so it wasn’t like I was down on the ground d expecting him to walk.”

Well boss Mark McGhee e added: “We were betterer when we both had 11. With th 10 we didn’t create realal chances. I’m not too upsetet by it, certainly not like lastast week – we had good spirit, it, good energy and we passeded the ball well at times.”
