Steven Gerrard could soon be in line for a coaching role with England even though the former Three Lions skipper already has a new role at Liverpool’s academy

The 36-year- old Anfield legend, who worked with England’s Under-19s squad last summer, said: “Working for England is an option.

“Of course, what I need to do first is get my teeth into the Liverpool job.

“But hopefully I’ ll dip my toe in with England over the next year or so.”

Gerrard, who will combine his role at Liverpool with that of a pundit with BT Sport believes his old club must beat Chelsea on Tuesday to keep title hopes alive.

The Merseysiders are 10 points off the pace-setting Blues and Gerrard said: “If Liverpool lose it’s game over in terms of the title race.” Jose Mourinho is ready to restore outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United’s Europa League squad.

The German midfielder has trained his way back into his manager’s plans after refusing the chance to quit Old Trafford back in the summer.

He was left out of United’s European squad for the group stage but the 32- year- old is in contention for a place on the bench for today’s FA Cup clash with Wigan.

Mourinho said: “Bastian stayed in Manchester when we played Hull last week so normally he will come into the squad. As for Europe, yes of course.” Crystal Palace want their money back from Newcastle for England winger Andros Townsend.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bring back the player sold to the Eagles for £13million last year.

Newcastle would rather agree a loan deal with an eye to a permanent transfer if they return to the Premier League but Palace are keen to recoup all of the fee for a player not in boss Sam Allardyce’s plans. Burnley have made an offer for 29 - yea r - old Toronto hitman Sebastian Giovinco. Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough has been given permission to talk to Nottingham Forest about their vacant managerial role. The 50-year-old is expected to meet City Ground officials next week. Everton believe they have won the race to sign Brazilian striker Caio Emerson.

The 17-year-old, also a target for Barcelona and Liverpool, is out of contract at Corinthians in the summer which could mean the Toffees paying just a £ 250,000 development fee to the Brazilians.
