Houstie: We won for Fraz

- Falkirk ...............2 Dunfermline ....0 Lindsay Herron

Peter Houston dedicated Falkirk’s derby win to absent winger Fraser Aird who tragically lost his father Bill last week.

Although he was more than 3500 miles away for yesterday’s funeral, the former Rangers star took time out to text Houston and wish him all the best.

And he would have been impressed with the way his new club coasted to victory thanks to goals from John Baird and Lee Miller.

Bairns boss Houston said: “Sadly young Fraser’s father passed away and he went back to Canada for the funeral so that’s for Fraser.

“The boys are all upset for him because he is only a young man.

“When you lose your father at 22 it’s hard.

“Fraser texted me on the day of his dad’s funeral and said, ‘Keep it going gaffer, I wish you all the best’.

“What do you say to a boy when he is thinking about us?”

The home side got their noses in front after 34 minutes. James Craigen flighted a fine free-kick to the back post for Miller who headed the ball back across goal and Baird was there to head home his ninth of the season.

Dunfermline had gone close a minute earlier when midfielder Andy Geggan drove a low shot towards the right corner but Danny Rogers made a fine save.

The Bairns were in control and secured the points 13 minutes from time when Baird’s right-foot shot was brilliantly pushed on to the bar by Sean Murdoch only for Miller to slam in the rebound.

It was Dunfermline’s first defeat in 12 games and Pars gaffer Allan Johnston said: “We didn’t deserve anything from the game. It was one of our poorer performances of the season.”
