The win came three days after another UK punter pocketed £19.9million.

Two Brits a lso won £ 1mi l l ion by matching Millionair­e Maker codes.

National Lottery senior winners’ adviser Andy Carter said: “What a week it is for players.”

The decision will come as a hammer blow to management and staff at BBC Scotland and is likely to reignite a political row about the corporatio­n’s values.

BBC Scotland had trialled pilot hour-long evening programmes to replace both Repor t ing Scotland and the Six O’Clock News in Scotland.

The plan was backed by pro-independen­ce campaigner­s and enjoyed the support of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

But t he Su nday Ma i l understand­s an announceme­nt on ditching the £ 6million plan is expected ahead of BBC director general Tony Hall speaking at the Scottish Parliament’s culture committee on Thursday.

It will end almost 10 years of debate about news and politics coverage on BBC Scotland.

A Scottish Government source: “The Scottish Six is something which has been on the agenda for years.

“If the decision is not to go ahead it would be a major missed opportunit­y in terms of improving news and current affairs coverage in Scotland, and in boosting the nation’s media industry overall.
