Haye’s just a clown .. a lost, lonely man

Bellew rips into his bitter ring rival

- Tom Hopkinson

Tony Bellew has launched a verbal assault on David Haye to light the blue touch paper ahead of Saturday’s clash at London’s O2 Arena.

The Scouser dismissed his bitter rival as a “clown” and a “lonely, lost man”, and questioned his decision to spend Christmas Day 4,500 miles away from his children. He said: “What kind of father would choose to spend Christmas wak ing up in Miami in the sun with people who couldn’t give two hoots about him rather than waking up around his own kids?

“I know what floats my boat – giving my kids the world and wanting to see them opening their presents.

“He’s a clown, a lonely, broken, lost man with no one around who really cares enough to open their mouth and tell him what he has been saying is wrong.

“He’s pathetic. But that’s not my problem. My problem is to punch him in the face on March 4 and beat him.

“I’ve no care for him, he’s just an idiot.” Bellew is still smarting that Haye threw a punch at him when the pair last met at the launch of this fight. And sparks are sure to fly again when they attend two press conferences to promote the heavyweight bout this week. Bellew had been asked if he felt Haye had been cutting corners training in Miami.

And before quest ioning the 36-year- old’s take on parenting, he replied: “He has worked hard and he would be a fool not to have worked hard.

“But I don’t think he’d prepare for Anthony Joshua this way.

“There’s not a chance, not in a million, that his trainer Shane McGuigan would say he only needs four weeks with him before he fought for the heavyweight championship of the world.

“Shane isn’t in control here. David’s the boss. Why did Shane have all his other fighters in Las Vegas with him when Carl Frampton was fighting?

“George Groves was there, Josh Hales was there. Why wasn’t Haye? Because Haye didn’t want to be there.

“He wanted to be in Miami under the sun training by day and nightclubbing by night.

“I couldn’t give two s**** about the sun in Miami. I don’t mind the cold in Liverpool, I get on with it.

“I’m not the kind of person who goes to the opening of an envelope.

“I hate cameras, I hate fame. I can’t even go to the pub and have a sing and a dance, because if I do it goes out on video. “This gob***** loves al l that, I can ’t stand it.”
