CELTIC LATEST SINCRONISED

Celts’ wide man Scott goes from bench to top

-

This time last year Scott Sinclair was climbing the walls of Aston Villa’s dugout amid lost cause sub appearances that were more of an insult than an opportunity.

Twelve months on the Celtic winger is being touted for Scotland’s player of the year honours in a stellar season that goes from strength to strength.

And he’s adamant there is only one man to thank if he ends up with the accolade – Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers.

The 27-year- old admits his garbage time cameos in last season’s 6- 0 and 4- 0 defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City feel like a lifetime ago as an unbeaten Celtic chase the Treble.

And Sinclair said: “If I’m in contention for the Player of the Year award that would mean the world to me. It would just show all the hard work I’ve put in.

“Even back then when I wasn’t playing as much as I wanted I was still doing the hard graft behind the scenes and even staying behind to do extra sessions. Hopefully that’s all paying off now.

“That feels like a long, long time ago – a world away. Football goes so quickly – it moves on, you look back and you don’t know where the time has gone. That stage of my career was very tough.

“But you need to go through periods like that. Now I don’t think about it – I haven’t looked back since. I’m enjoying my football and that has been the case since the minute I came up here.

“What happened then made me stronger as a person. It made me even hungrier and made me want to play regularly again.

“I’ve come here and I’m loving every moment. Not only am I playing every week and scoring but we’re winning games as well.”
