Perfect tune for Andrew

-

Andrew Shinnie warmed up for his first Edinburgh derby by watching YouTube videos of Hibs fans celebrating last season’s Scottish Cup win over Hearts.

But the playmaker insists nothing compares to hearing a packed Easter Road belt out Sunshine on Leith live – not even life in England’s money-spinning second tier.

The on-loan Birmingham City midfielder introduced himself to the derby with a goal in Hibs’ 3-1 Scottish Cup fifth-round replay win over Hearts in midweek.

Shinnie was playing in the Engl ish Championship when the Hibees beat their rivals at the same stage of the tournament last season.

And the 27-year-old said: “I loved it – it was everything I thought it would be.

“I was buzzing after the game because I’d watched YouTube videos of last year when they sang Sunshine on Leith after the Hearts game and thought it was unbelievable.

“I was jealous of it and I’m now so glad I’ve sampled that and been a part of it.

“I was glad I scored and then to win and walk around the ground as they were singing after the game was unbelievable. I was just glad I got that chance.

“Down south gets built up quite a lot. People go down there and financially it is a big difference.

“But I’ve been at a lot of Engl ish Championship matches and they’re decent games but nothing like that atmosphere – that was unbelievable.”

Ex- Inverness player Shinnie, contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2018, is at Easter Road until the end of the campaign.

And he said: “I love it here. Hibs should be in the top league.

“I wouldn’t not extend my stay here. I would like to stay here but I’m not going to think about that until the summer.

“I’m just working hard on my football and that will take care of itself.”

As far as CV lines go, that might just tick every box in Rangers’ search for a new director of football.

And if Karl Robinson’s assessment of Paul Mitchell is anything to go by, it’s easy to see why Spurs’ head of recruitment is

high on their l ist. The
