Tommy: That was so brutal

- Michael Gannon

Tommy Wright slammed St Johnstone’s display as the worst of his reign.

The McDiarmid Park boss admitted he couldn’t bel ieve his eyes in a shocking first 45 minutes.

Wright said: “Someone said you know after a minute how your team will play. We knew after about 15 seconds. I’m struggling to explain it because it was so poor and it was brutal.

“I can’t believe the first half and it’s probably the worst display in the five or six years I’ve been here.

“The number of mistakes, non-tackles, not winning second balls, misplaced passes, players caught in possession.

“You have to give Killie credit but I’m looking to my team and we didn’t do the basics well.”

Zander Clark’s poor clearance set up Rory McKenzie for the opener and the keeper boobed again to allow Conor Sammon goal No.2.

Wright insisted: “The first goal is a comedy of errors, take nothing away from the f inish, but it summed up our first half.

“I’m sure it left a lot of fans numb, it certainly did myself and Callum Davidson. The display last week was good so I never saw this coming.

“We knew we had to start quicker at home so to go out and do that is criminal.

“We were better in the second half but the one chance they get, we don’t deal with the high ball and the keeper should save it – so we have gifted them their two goals.

“Only Joe Shaughnessy, Richard Foster and Paul Paton, who was only on for 30 minutes, came out of this match with any credit.

“The strikers never got much service but the rest were way below par.”
