I want fans to give us pelters

-

Under-fire Ian Cathro has urged Hearts fans to continue giving them pelters for their poor performances.

The Jambos head coach faced the wrath of supporters again at Firhill after a 2- 0 defeat to Partick Thistle.

Cathro demanded a reaction from his players after the midweek derby loss to Hibs in the Scottish Cup.

But it didn’t come as his team put in yet another insipid display.

When asked if he’d got the response he wanted after Easter Road, Cathro said: “We wanted to be more dominant. So no. Rather than wasting time, let’s just say no. I’m not going to waste anyone’s time and say yes.

“Were we entirely bad? No. But this is a difficult moment so we face up to the situation.”

When quizzed on what he has to change to get his side out of their current predicament – they’ve won just three league games out of 10 since he took over – Cathro said: “I don’t need to give you all of that.

“We need to do it and have clear things in our mind of what we want to improve. We deliver that and you will see.

“We said on Wednesday we didn’t do enough in a game of that magnitude to give everybody what they needed to see from the team they love.

“Today we didn’t do it either. So everything that was said on Wednesday is the same situation.

“What’s important is that everyone is together and clear in their mind about what their responsibilities are. That is what, through time, earns back the trust of the fans.

“I said that, I put that out and accept the responsibility.

“Do I want the fans to be patient? No. I want them to come and expect us to be perfect from the start of the game.

“That’s what makes playing for this club a little more difficult than others. It matters so much and the fans are powerful.

“Make it difficult for us, make it a challenge, make there be pressure.”
