Bully Wee boss Baz set to quit

-

Barry Ferguson was last night understood to be agonising over his future as Clyde boss after his side went 10 league games without a win.

The ex-Rangers skipper held lengthy talks with chairman John Alexander after a 1- 0 defeat to Annan left the Bully Wee languishing in eighth.

It’s understood the Bully Wee chief told him to take the weekend before making any decision.

Ferguson was non- committal about his future after Max Wright’s 74th- minute finish at Galabank earned Annan the points.

Asked if he would remain in place, he said: “What’s important for me is that the team starts picking up results to climb the league.”

Asked about calls for his head, he added: “I’m used to the shouts from the fans – I’ve had it for 24 years.

“But the one thing I will say is I’ve always worked hard for this club. As a person I give it everything and I care about the club. But it’s hard to take when it starts affecting the players.”

A fifth win in six moved Athletic eight points clear in the final play-off place and boss Jim Chapman said: “Because of the rebuilding process last summer we were always going to get stronger as the season went on.”

Chris McLeish’s glancing header sealed Elgin’s 1- 0 win over Berwick, who had a strong claim for a spot-kick when Steven Thomson appeared to be fouled. Wee Gers boss John Coughlin said: “We should have had a penalty and there were a few other decisions that went against us.”

Cowdenbeath remain four points adrift at the bottom after Martin Scott, Steven Doris, Gavin Malin and a Liam Henderson own goal saw them thumped 4-1 by Arbroath.

Scott Rumsby hit an injury-time consolation and Blue Brazil boss Liam Fox said: “Every single one of my players needs to go home and have a long, hard look in the mirror.”

Forfar’s lead at the top was reduced to four points after a 0- 0 draw with Montrose. Boss Gary Bollan said: “It’s our job now to encourage the players to show what they’re capable of.”

And Stirling Albion moved up to seventh as Ross Kavanagh’s 16thminute goal sank Edinburgh City 1-0.

Binos boss Dave Mackay said: “At this time of the season performances don’t really matter too much. It’s all about the points.”
