And Waghorn came close with a lovely turn on the edge of the box and a shot which f izzed across Gary Woods’ goal and past the far post.

But it was Tavernier, back at right- back in place of Lee Hodson, who was dominating his flank. And the opening goal was terrific work. Starting deep inside his own half, he motored 60 yards before a long one-two with Miller sent him into the box, picking out a nicely timed finish from Hyndman.

Caixinha wheeled round in his technical area, punching the air down low, clearly happy at the execution and probably heaving a little inward sigh of relief at the same time. Pressure off.

The floodgates didn’t exactly open though – and it took until four minutes from the break before Rangers added a second.

The balls into the box which had been Accies’ downfall two weeks ago proved

Within 10 minutes they were another ahead, a poor clearing header from Alex Gogic sent back into the box where Waghorn was done on the backswing for a shot by Massimo Donati. The striker then converted his own spot-kick straight down the middle. The tempo plummeted from there but it was still more than enough. And with 17 minutes lef t Rangers found another little burst to twist the knife into Accies once more.

Miller’s industry won the ball back as Imrie and Grant Gi l lespie dithered and af ter feeding Waghorn he was desperate to meet the return. But Wallace beat him to it, squeezing the finish through Woods at his near post.

Caixinha looked neither up nor down at the end. His side turned in some nice work but he won’t be fooled into thinking every team they play will be as supine as Accies.

You don’t get to a record of 14 wins in 29 games without having flaws.

But he’s on the s coreboard. Whether he has enough time to get it ticking fast enough to make a difference this season remains to be seen. “Good result today! Thank you & welcome banners were classy.” @harry_forrester
