Nats’ attack on Labour

-

Nicola Sturgeon vowed to make Glasgow a “true city government” as she kicked off the SNP campaign to take the Labour stronghold.

Glasgow has been run by Labour for nearly 40 years but the SNP leader said the “tired, complacent, and out of date” administration had taken the city for granted.

Speaking ahead of the council elections on May 4, Sturgeon said the SNP were “seeking to be a true city government providing the leadership, the direction and the ambition this city is crying out for”.

But Labour deputy leader Tom Watson teamed up with Glasgow City Council leader Frank McAveety to accuse the SNP of cutting £377million from the city’s budget in the past decade.

Watson said: “Voters in Glasgow and across the country can send the SNP a message – stop dividing our country and get on with the job of investing in local services.”
