Weather hits bid to recover pilot body

Efforts to recover the body of a missing crewman from a crashed Irish coast guard hel icopter a re being hampered by ocean swells.

The discovery of the man’s body in the cockpit of the wreckage was confirmed on Friday after a series of dives at Blackrock island, off the coast of County Mayo.

Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, a 45-year-old mother of one, was the first of the four crew to be recovered from the sea after the tragedy 11 days ago.

The other crew members were Capt a in Ma rk Duffy, Winchman Ciaran Smith and Winch Operator Paul Ormsby.

The black box, which holds the f light data and voice records, was taken from the wreckage on Friday and is being f lown to Farnborough, Hampshire, for analysis.
