Martin said: “I was treated fairly enough by the courts. I was just one of the unlucky ones and have got to accept it and move on.

“It has been a bit over the top but they have to be seen to be doing something.”

Martin believes he could have appealed the ban order.

He added: “I think I could have come to an arrangemen­t with the court to continue playing but I’m not interested.

“I don’t go to a lot of matches either – I only go to finals.

“The only reason I left Berwick was because I was too busy working. It was nothing to do with the court case. Berwick were supporting me – they were decent.”

Yesterday Berwick club secretary Dennis McCleary said: “Brian is no longer at the club so we cannot comment.”

Photos of more than 300 suspects have been made public during the 10-month probe. Off icers have so far made 145 arrests.

A special incident room has been set up in Govan police office in Glasgow to target the pitch invaders.

Hibs have pledged to find all those involved in the violence and issue them with a ban.
