Norman Silvester Two Estonian murderers have been moved from a high security jail after they were hired by a Daniel crime clan member as bodyguards.

Alexsandr Podgornoi and Vladimir Jakovlev were recruited by convicted heroin dealer Zander Sutherland in Low Moss Prison.

The pair were jailed for 19 years af ter they bat tered thei r neighbour to death when asked to keep the noise down.

They tied up Chr istopher McColm, 41, and punched, k icked and stamped on his head and body at his home in Hawick , Roxburghshire, in 2010.

Sutherland – sentenced to 13 years for hero in traff icking in 2015 – hired the thugs to provide muscle after he was targeted by rival cons.

The 27-year-old has feared foror his safety after suffering minoror injuries in two violent incidentsts at the jail in Bishopbriggs, nearar Glasgow.

But prison bosses moved in lastst week and transferred Podgornoioi to Grampian Prison in Peterheadd and Jakovlev to Perth Prison.

Both men – found guilty of murder at the High Court in Livingston in 2011 – will be deported when they are released ffrom prison.is SSutherlandthld is ththe son of crime boss Jamie Daniel, who died from cancer last year.

His family have been waging war with the Lyons syndicate for more than 15 years. A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: “Wedon’tcommentonindividualWedon’tcommentonindividual prisoners.”

A series of tit-of-tat gun attacks in the Glasgow area has been blamed on rising tensions between the two factions. Armed police have now issued more than 50 threat-to-life warnings – also known as Osmans – to gang members and their relatives in recent weeks.

They’ve also issued at least 12 disruption notices to crime figures including Jamie Daniel’s other son, Francis “Fraggle” Green, his nephew Robert Daniel and Lyons gang member Victor Gallacher.

The men are also among those to receive Osman warnings.

Disruption notices are served on suspects when police have intelligence that they are about to carry out an act of violence.

A gunman aimed shots through the window of Green’s home in Milton of Campsie, near Glasgow, last month. No one was injured.

Robert Daniel was shot outside his home in Stepps, near Glasgow, days later. Lyons gang lieutenant Ross Monaghan was shot in the shoulder outside his daughter’s primary school in Glasgow’s Penilee in January.

A source said: “Sutherland has been feeling under pressure in Low Moss. He knows he’s a target but thought he had bought himself protection in Podgornoi and Jakovlev until they were transferred.”

Meanwhi le, inmate Chris Dixon was attacked in Glenochil Prison, Stirlingshire, on Friday night.

He was blamed for trying to slash gangland f igure Ross Sherlock – a close associate of the Daniels – in Low Moss last month.

An SPS spokesman said: “We can conf irm there was an incident involving a prisoner at Glenochil.

“We can’t comment further.”
