Flynn is fighting fit again

- Ewing Grahame

Charlie Flynn insists he’ll use the hurt from his crock hell to spur him on to glory against Ryan Collins in 13 days’ time.

It has taken him nearly a year but the Mailman finally intends to deliver the goods at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

Flynn has been out of action for 11 months due to a horrendous catalogue of injuries.

But he is adamant he has put his time to good use ahead of his fight with Collins for the vacant Celtic Lightweight title on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ unification bout with IBF and IBO light-welterweight champ Julius Indongo on April 15.

Flynn has been in intense training with Peter Sims at his gym in Essex for three months.

And he revealed he has got rid of his ring rust by boxing FIVE different opponents every night.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist said: “I’ve been training three times a day every single day.

“The last year has been a bit of a nightmare – I broke my ribs, broke my foot, split my lip and had a hand injury as well. To make it worse, most of those injuries came just before I was due to fight.

“I could have had a fight in February but I wanted a long training camp for this one.

“I’ve been away for 13 weeks now and sparring for the last eight of them.

“To get me up to speed I’ve been going in for 10 rounds with five different sparring partners. They take a round each.”

Flynn has enjoyed working out in England – because nobody knows who he is there.

He said: “Being here gets you away from all the distractions.

“I don’t know anybody down here so I can get on with things in complete privacy.”

Irvine ace Collins has bounced back from two bad losses to Chris Adaway and Abdon Cesar last year to win five on the bounce and Flynn isn’t reading too much into those setbacks.

He said: “When you’re fighting a journeyman it’s easy to take your eye off the ball but that won’t be the case when he faces me. This is a big opportunity for him so he’ll be at his best but I have my own plans.

“I thrive on pressure and I enjoy all the hype that goes along with big fight nights.”
