Caixinha said: “It’s a different surface but if FIFA gives you the licence to play on it – and the pitch is evolving – it means it’s almost the same as grass.

“I won’t push my players to work on our artif icial surfaces at the training ground to prepare. They know how to deal with it.

“There is a warm-up to get that adaptation. You need to adapt to the speed of the ball when it hits the ground or the height of a rebound but the rest should be OK.

“There are guys who norma l ly have k nee problems so we need to deal with that. But the rest is all the same. There will be no excuses for us.

“When we were kids we’d put down stones, play to five goals then change ends. That was us on the street so we need to be ready to play on all surfaces.

“Maybe I’ll have to change the mentality and pattern because it’s an away game.”
