BRAWL PAIR KO

- Craig Swan

St Johnstone badboys Danny Swanson and Richard Foster were suspended by the club last night and face being kicked out after their onfield fight at Hamilton that saw both red-carded. Boss Tommy Wright has launched an urgent

probe into the ugly clash as the teams left the park at half-time.

And although Wright refused to be drawn on any potential punishments, Mail Sport understands their futures at the club could be on the line.

A statement released by the Perth club last night said: “Following the incident in today’s match against Hamilton Academical FC, the club wishes to advise that players Danny Swanson and Richard Foster have been suspended pending a full and thorough investigation into the matter.

“The club also wishes to make it clear that, contrary to some reports, no player or member of staff has been spoken to or interviewed by Police Scotland.”

The pair had to be pulled apart as both sets of players and the management teams got involved in a heated exchange.

Wright was careful with his words afterwards but confirmed the club will probe the matter thoroughly before dealing swiftly with the incident.

The Perth gaffer said: “I have told the two players involved, in front of there st, that the club will investigate.

“I’ve heard what is alleged to have happened but until I investigate and see it with my own eyes, I can’t say any more.

“But they have been told that, if what happened is what is alleged to have happened, I will and the club will come down on them as hard as we possibly can, legally.

“Whether they had a grievance about what was happening on the pitch, that should have waited until the dressing-room because they have cost us three points.”

Wright’s team were unable to hold on with nine men throughout the second period and lost a late winner as Hamilton striker Alex D’Acol pounced.

But Saints still clinched their place in the top six despite the defeat and Wright said: “We nearly got a point from the magnificent performance of the nine who stayed on the pitch.”
