PAUL: PILE OF POO!

So what did you think of Dundee’s performance Paul?

- Scott McDermott

Paul McGowan has slaughtered Dundee – branding them “s***e”.

The Dens midfielder ripped into his side after their 7-0 thrashing by Aberdeen on Friday night.

McGowan said: “We embarrassed ourselves, the club and the fans There is one word for it: s***e.”

Embarrassed Paul McGowan admits Dundee are a mentally weak team who defend like a Sunday league side.

And after Friday night’s 7- 0 drubbing at the hands of Aberdeen, he says if Dons left-back Andy Considine can score three against them they have major problems.

Midfielder McGowan was mortified by the performance of Paul Hartley’s side.

And he has urged every player in the Dens Park dressing-room to take a long hard look at themselves.

He fears the woeful display against the Dons could have a huge negative impact on the Dark Blues’ confidence – and he is adamant that they are now in a relegation scrap.

In a searingly-honest assessment of Dundee’s worst defeat in 46 years, McGowan said: “It was embarrassing.

“We embarrassed ourselves, the club and we embarrassed the fans. “There’s one word for it – s***e. “It’s indefensible. Right throughout the team, every one of us, we should all take a hard look at ourselves in the mirror – because that was not acceptable on Friday night.

“It’s probably the worst I’ve ever been involved in and it will hurt for a long time. “We’re actually kidding ourselves on just now.

“The way we train – we go and try to pass the ball, everybody wants it.

“Then when we go to a game nobody’s there, it’s as if we’re hiding.

“Look at the goals we lost – five from crosses into the box and you’ve got a left-back scoring a hat-trick! Fair play to

Considine, he had a great game. But when a left-back is scoring a hat-trick then you know you’ve got serious issues.

“From strikers, through the midfield, to defenders – every one of us, we’re weak as p***. That’s the only way I can sum it up. “Right through the team we are weak. Mentally weak.

“When the going gets tough we’ve got nothing about us.

“You might think I’m being harsh but it’s a harsh reality. This is a dogfight we’re in now.

“Teams will be looking at us now and thinking: ‘ They’ve gone.’”

McGowan says the Dark Blues squad have to take full responsibility for the hammering because gaffer Hartley can do no more.

He insists Dees fans were right to walk out of Dens in disgust before half-time on Friday night – and laughed off any suggestion that Dundee can still finish in the top six.

They’re seven points off the top half and McGowan said: “The manager can’t do anything about that on Friday night – that’s the players.

“Every one of us, it’s unacceptable to go out there and perform like we did in a game of football.

“That happens in a Sunday league game – it shouldn’t happen in this league.

“I honestly don’t know if we’ve got the guts to get out of the situation we’re in. That’s the scary thing.

“You can shout, you can scream as loud as you want. But at the end of the day if it’s not in there it’s not in there.

“We’re in trouble now, of course we are, there’s no getting away from it.

“If people think we’re safe from relegation then they’re talking rubbish. We’re definitely in trouble. “Forget about the top six. I’m sick of hearing about the top six.

“The way we’ve been playing we haven’t been good enough for top six. That’s the bottom line.

“We don’t deserve to be in the top six

the way we’re playing. I total ly understand punters leaving at half-time. They pay good money. “They’re angry – and rightly so. They deserve to be angry.

“There’s a way of getting beat and that just ain’t it. Every time Aberdeen went forward it looked like they were going to score a goal. “It was like men against boys.” Dundee somehow have to lift themselves for a trip to Dingwall in midweek to face Ross County.

And McGowan admits any conf idence they might have built up recently in games against the Old Firm is gone.

He said: “It’s going to be very hard to get the heads back up for Tuesday. That will take a lot out of our confidence.

“As soon as we go a goal down we crumble.

“You can look at the Rangers g a me , winning 2-1, yeah, brilliant plaudits. The Celtic game, 2-1 defeat, we’re saying we did alright.

“Did we? I don’t think we did. It’s only when we went 2- 0 down that we started to play.

“We are so up and down and it’s mentally draining.”
