Moderate wins in Iran

I r a n i a n pr e s i d e n t Hassan Rouhani has won a second four- year term with a thumping majority.

The moderate reformer got 57 per cent of the vote. His nearest rival, hardliner Ebrahim Raisi, trailed far behind on 38 per cent.

Rouhani struck the 2015 nuclear deal with the west which ended crippling sanctions on Iran. He ranks below the country’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
