Gun cops in night swoop on flats

-

Armed police swooped on a block of flats in a night raid.

The armed response unit were backed by 15 officers in riot gear for the planned operation in Edinburgh.

They targeted a building on Leith’s Lindsay Road at about 10pm on Friday.

At least 10 police vehicles – including cars, vans and 4x4s – were on the scene near the Ocean Terminal shopping centre.

A helicopter was also called in as back-up.

Police Scotland confirmed yesterday that armed off icers had attended an incident.

But they would not give further details on the nature of the operation.

They said the off icers were stood down a short t ime later. No ar rests were made and no one was injured.

It is understood that police had planned to arrest a wanted man, who they were told was living in the building.

Local resident Davie Moohan said on social media after the raid drama: “Looking for someone in the stair.

“Everyone was told to stay in by the armed response team but they’re away now.”
