£17m unit is UK first

A £17million cancerfighting machine – the first in the UK – is being built in Wales.

The 55-ton proton beam therapy unit will deliver radiotherapy to about 500 patients a year, cutting the risk of damage to healthy organs.

It will take a year to install it at the Rutherford Cancer Centre in Newport.
