Seaside pub on a wave of success but room for improvement outside

-

Set back from the seafront at Largs, Room is a modern pub in an oldfashioned setting.

It’s huge inside with a bright dining area at the rear and it’s a music venue by night.

Our first impression was not great as the street outside really needed a clean-up. There was litter everywhere and lots of discarded cigarette ends.

But we were pleasantly surprised when we walked through the door.

The staff were cheery and the bar is huge and well stocked.

Draughts included Carling, Belhaven Best, East Coast IPA and Blue Moon.

And there were even a few Scottish favourites in the bottled selection – Twisted Thistle IPA and Innis & Gunn Original.

Food-wise, they had two courses from the main menu for £10.95 at lunchtime every day and you could add a third dish for £ 3.95.

It was child friendly too – the kids’ menu had starters costing £1.50 and mains at £ 4.50. Wee ones could build their own pizza for £ 3.95.

Notable starters included Arran haggis and black pudding pakora with home-made spicy sauce, priced £ 4.95.

But we were very nearly calling the fire brigade when our sizzling chicken fajita platter arrived.

It was wildly smoky but worth the initial coughing and spluttering as the meat tasted great.

We also gave the huge steak pie portion a thumbs-up. It came with vegetables, chips or potatoes at £9.95.
