Stu rages as thugs spoil party

-

Stuart McCall admitted he nearly lost the plot when Millwall fans invaded Wembley and goaded the Bradford boss and his players.

The ex-Rangers and Motherwell manager blasted security after he was caught up in the pitch invasion.

McCall, who had Millwall fans shouting in his face, said: “Wembley have to learn from this. Everyone in the place knew they were coming on. I was close to clocking a couple.

“They were in my face. I was verbally assaulted, not physically. Why can’t they enjoy their moment?”

Former Aberdeen defender Rory McArdle was also caught up in the chaos and said: “It’s Wembley and you don’t usually associate pitch invasions at Wembley.

“It was horrible but it’s Millwall fans at the end of the day, isn’t it?”

The Lions secured a return to the Championship thanks to a late goal from striker Steve Morison and he blasted fans for ruining the party.

Live on TV he said: “I can’t talk, they are annoying me. They’ve ruined this for everyone.”

After fans cleared the pitch to allow players to climb the Wembley steps to lift the play- off trophy, Millwall boss Neil Harris said: “We didn’t want the fans to come on but they came on in good spirit.

“I don’t condone it, it’s not the place for that and I apologise to Stuart and his staff, but it won’t take away from my enjoyment tonight.

“Steve is our talisman. He’s an integral part of how we play and when you need that moment of magic he’s the man.”

Defeat was tough on Bradford who made better chances and saw Billy Clarke denied by a super save from Scots keeper Jordan Archer.

McCall added: “The boy Archer’s save was top drawer. It’s tough to take as I don’t think there was anything between the sides.

“It shows the fine lines in football. Congratulations to Neil – now I know how he was feeling last year.

“The players in the dressing room are devastated but we’ve got to aim to do the same as Millwall next year.”
