Ripper I beat idiot Brady at chess
The Yorkshire Ripper has told how he came to despise Ian Brady after playing chess with him in jail.
Peter Sutcliffe, 70, played against the Moors Murderer while they were both serving time at Wormwood Scrubs in London.
Brady was known to love the game and was said to be a good player.
Speaking before Brady’s death two weeks ago, Sutcliffe told a pal: “He used to come round with meals on a trolley. That was his job.
“I played chess with him and I beat him, so he’s not that bright.
“He was upset about that. He ta kes ever y thing seriously and thinks he’s the bees’ knees, but he’s just an idiot.
“He had an air of kind of feeling as though he was very important. It was like he thought he was a snob.”
Sutcliffe is now serving 20 life sentences at Frankland Prison in Durham for murdering 13 women and attempting to kill seven others in Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
Despite his cr imes, Sutcliffe couldn’t fathom Brady, whom he called “shallow and stupid”.
He said: “He’s just a psychopath. He’s wrong in the head.
“He might not realise it, but he is and makes himself out to be a right twerp.
“He acquainted killing kids as a triviality. To do them things, that was mental, wasn’t it?
“He loves the publicity. I hate it, but he seems to thrive on it.”
