I hope gaffer snubs TV to stay in dugout

- Gordon Waddell

James Vincent has seen enough former pros talk the talk on TV.

Now he knows Neil McCann can walk the walk as well, he’d love to see and hear more.

The Sky pundit lef t the commentary box behind for a stint in the Dundee dugout.

Despite pulling off the rescue mission in three matches, though, his team’s two- game post- safety slump clearly put doubts in his head whether couch or coaching now beckons.

Midfielder Vincent reckons it should be the latter, despite being on the receiving end of a few home truths in the wake of their 4- 0 flop at Hamilton last week.

The 27-year-old said: “He was a perfect fit for the club.

“He got the best out of us. The gaffer is a straight talker, an honest boy. I had watched him on television as a pundit.

“There’s a pressure that comes with that switch. Look at what happened with Gary Neville.

“Some people maybe just do talk the talk. They give an opinion and it causes controversy.

“But Neil came in with standards and a philosophy. I’m doing my UEFA ‘B’ Licence so I’m getting an understanding of how much planning has to go into the job. And from day one with the manager there was a plan.”

Vincent is enhancing his own CV with that ‘ B’ Licence – and hopes to bring some benefits to Dundee as well.

He said: “I can maybe help the Under-17s with Jimmy Boyle.

“It’s a natural progression and then I’ll have an idea if it’s for me.”
