SCOTLAND V ENGLAND

- Scott McDermott

Scotland have been spared having to wear their unpopular pink away shirt against England at Hampden.

Gordon Strachan’s side were forced to switch for their visit to Wembley in November because our home kit’s white sleeves clashed with the Auld Enemy.

And when England released a new navy blue away top it was feared we’d have to adorn the pink one again on June 10.

But MailSport understands that the English will wear a red shirt, allowing the Scots to showcase their traditional colours. The pink kit has been roundly criticised, especially after it was used for the vital World Cup qualifier at Wembley which Scotland lost 3-0.

Darren Fletcher wanted the shirt ditched and believes it would have been a disgrace if the unlucky pink shirt was worn again at Hampden.

He said: “When I saw the pink kit I did everything I could to stop us wearing it. I was asking, ‘What are we doing?’

“I asked if we could make a one-off kit instead but it didn’t happen. Scotland should never have worn pink against England. FIFA have crazy rules and it shouldn’t have happened.

“It would be disgraceful if Scotland were forced to wear our away kit at home in June.”

The Scotland squad will stay at Mar Hall Hotel, Erskine, ahead of the Auld Enemy clash but train at Rangers’ Training Centre at Auchenhowie – despite no Gers players in Strachan’s pool.

Auchenhowie was Strachan’s preferred choice over Celtic’s Lennoxtown due to its close proximity to the Scotland team hotel.
