one or two good buys. They showed strength, unity and played spectacular football.”

Match-winner Ramsey certainly hopes Wenger remains at the helm after delivering the 10th major trophy of his reign.

The Welsh midfielder said: “Of course I want him to stay. He deserves this.

“We changed the formation and had a lot of success. Hopefully, he’ll be there next season.”

It looked like the Gunners might blow it again when Costa rif led home the leveller after team-mate Victor Moses had picked up a second yellow for diving. But Wenger’s side raced up the park and sub Olivier Giroud sent over a brilliant cross with his first touch that Ramsey headed home.

It’s the second time he has scored the winner in an FA Cup Final after netting an extra- time clincher against Hull in 2014.

And Ramsey said: “I can’t describe this. It has been an up-and-down season.

“We’ve finished with the FA Cup so it has to be successful.

“I’ve got the winner again. I love this competition. The boys deserve this. I’m happy for the manager. To get another FA Cup – delighted.”

Ramsey’s goal denied Chelsea the Double as the season ended on a sour note for the Blues.

But they had a grievance over Sanchez’s opener as the Chilean handled the ball before racing through to beat Thibaut Courtois.

It looked like the goal would be disallowed for offside against Ramsey but referee Anthony Taylor spoke to his assistant and ruled the midfielder hadn’t been interfering with play.

However, Courtois insisted it should have been chalked off for two reasons.

The keeper said: “The first goal should never have been allowed.

“It was clearly a handball and then Ramsey was offside because he was interfering with play.

“After that goal, we tried to play but they deserved it.”

Courtois also had no complaints with the red card after Moses, already on a booking, dived when Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain pulled out of a tackle in the box.

The Belgian said: “We went down to 10 men and the red card was correct. But Victor Moses doesn’t need to apologise.”

Arsenal had plenty of chances to kill Chelsea off before that red card, with Mesut Ozil seeing an effort cleared off the line by Gary Cahill. Danny Welbeck then hit the woodwork with a header and Ramsey somehow failed to bundle home the rebound.

It looked like Costa would make them pay for that miss as he chested down in the box and fired in a low shot that David Ospina failed to keep out.

But Ramsey pounced to send Blues boss Antonio Conte crashing to defeat.

The Italian said: “Our season was incredible, winning the league so well. But it’s important to look forward now and restart.”
